Link Worker – South Tyneside

About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual with a keen interest in mental health to join our team.
As a Link Worker for our Carer Support Service, you will be working with those who are caring for someone experiencing mental ill health. As a key member of the team, you will provide emotional and practical support to carers and helping them to manage the challenges they may experience as carer whilst also being able to have a life of their own.
You will achieve this by providing one to one telephone and face to face support. This may include providing a listening ear and providing information and signposting to community services and relevant resources. You will also help run a range of other activities, such as craft sessions or coffee mornings.
In addition, you will work closely with other community groups and statutory services to ensure that the voice of mental health carers is heard, and individuals can be informed and signposted to community services and resources which will support them in their role.
About you
We would love to hear from you, if you possess the following:
- Awareness of mental health issues & users’ needs
- Knowledge of recovery in the context of mental health, as well as knowledge of the effects of stigma and discrimination
- Prepared to undertake a basic mental health qualification
- Very good interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop good working relationships at all levels, both internally and externally
- Group facilitation & participation skills
- Ability to meet the travel requirements of the role, as you will need to travel to different community venues in the South Tyneside area as part of your role
- Worked with people who have enduring & complex mental health issues (desirable, not essential)
