We are delighted to announce that David Down, the new Lord Mayor of Newcastle upon Tyne, has chosen Mental Health Concern (MHC) as one of two charities to fundraise for during his year in office. The Lord Mayor has chosen to focus his fundraising efforts for MHC on Moving Forward, a service which helps people affected by mental ill-health to get back on their feet.
Brendan Hill, our Chief Executive, attended the Lord Mayor’s inauguration on 23 May, when the chosen charities were formally announced.

Moving Forward helps anyone affected by mental ill-health to get back on their feet. Through a range of activities, interest groups, and training courses, we help people to
- rediscover their confidence
- make new friends
- improve their physical and mental wellbeing
- gain experience and qualifications to help them get into work.
We are very grateful for the Lord Mayor’s support and we look forward to working together to raise awareness about mental ill-health and to fund activities to help people affected by it in Newcastle. Donations made to Moving Forward will be used to fund more activities in the community, to help people affected by mental ill-health to achieve their goals and aspirations.
