While the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak meant that the Easter weekend has been a strange one for everyone, many of the eldest amongst us were faced with spending Easter alone.
One of our services, Chain Reaction, supports older people in Newcastle by helping them to live independently, offering one-to-one support, and hosting a Friendship Hub to ensure people stay connected. This has been more of a challenge during coronavirus, but the pupils of local primary schools were aware that some older people would be on their own over the Easter weekend, so made special Easter cards to help them to feel less isolated!
The cards were a lovely surprise for the people we support, who even took the time to call the service to express their gratitude for the ‘lovely little pick me up’. Pictured above are the cards we received from the reception class at West Denton Primary School.
We are so grateful to all the schools in the area who sent in cards to make sure that the people we support had an extra special Easter surprise, despite the challenging circumstances!
