Referring to Housing with Care and Support

Supported housing in Newcastle and Gateshead

Inclusion criteria

Our supporting housing services have no specific exclusion criteria, as each referral is individually assessed for suitability. The eligibility criteria state that the referred person:

  • has a complex and enduring mental health problem
  • will be expected to display a degree of ability to manage a tenancy and participate in community life
  • will be given priority if they are currently hospitalized, are in 24-hour care, are homeless, or are at risk of these

Charges

Accommodation rental is charged to the tenant, and is often covered by housing benefit for those in receipt of benefits. Support costs are generally covered by the local authority’s adult community-based services.

How to refer

To refer to our supported housing services in Newcastle, please do so via the council’s gateway system. For support or training required to use this system, please contact the Active Inclusion Team on 0191 277 1707.

To refer into our Supported Housing services in Gateshead, please send an email to referrals.rehab.mhc@nhs.net. Alternatively, please send a standard referral letter to the address below, outlining the reasons for your referral and a summary of the person’s needs and aspirations. We’ll take it from there.

Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Supported Housing

Inclusion criteria

No specific exclusion criteria apply. The eligibility criteria state that the referred person:

  • is referred from, and is care coordinated by the NTW Trust’s Early Intervention and Psychosis Team
  • is experiencing/has recently experienced a first episode in psychosis
  • is between 18 and 30 years old.
  • will be given priority if he/she is currently hospitalized, is in 24-hour care, is homeless, or is at risk of these

Charges

Accommodation rental is charged to the tenant and is often covered by housing benefit for those in receipt of benefits. Support costs are covered by a combination of Newcastle CCG and Newcastle City Council’s adult services.
